All admission policies are
subject to the rules and regulations of the Maryland State
Department of Education and the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
Pre-Kindergarten
The child must be four years of
age by September 1st of the entering school
year and must be bathroom trained. No testing is required.
Kindergarten
The child must be five years of
age by September 1st of the entering school
year. Successful completion of the Early Prevention of School
Failure test is required.
Grade 1
The child must be six years of
age by September 1st of the entering school
year. The decision on first grade admission is usually
determined by the kindergarten teacher’s recommendation. New
first-grade students will also be given the Early Prevention of
School Failure test.
Grades 2 – 8
1.
Students must be on or above grade level
2.
Students must have satisfactory marks in conduct and
effort.
3.
Students must place on or above their grade level on the
achievement tests given in reading comprehension, vocabulary,
math, and writing.
All Students
All new students are accepted on
probation.
Students whose performance on
the admissions tests is below grade level may be accepted with
the requirement that they repeat the current grade. Although
the grades earned on a new student’s report card from his/her
prior school are reviewed, the admissions tests given at OLV
take precedence.
A copy of the Social Security
card and
birth certificate are required for all students. Baptismal
certificates are required for Catholic children. Also required by Maryland law are
records of immunizations and physical and dental check-ups.
In admitting children, this
order of consideration is followed:
1.
Siblings of students presently enrolled.
2.
Parishioners’ children now reaching school age.
3.
Non-parishioners’ children who are transferring from
another Catholic school.
4. Children of
non-parishioners.
